The Moonstone's light had held steady, but Bramble looked worried. He sat on Lily's palm, tracing lines on a piece of bark with a charcoal stick.

"What's that?" Lily asked.

"A map," he said. "Of the stars. But something is wrong."

Lily leaned closer. The constellations were shifting, moving in ways they shouldn't.

"The stars are migrating," Bramble said. "If they move too far, the Moonstone will lose its power."

"Can we stop them?"

Bramble shook his head. "No one can stop the stars."

Lily looked at the night sky. The stars were beautiful, but they were also fading.

"Maybe we don't stop them," she said. "Maybe we follow them."

Bramble stared at her. "Follow them where?"

"To wherever they're going. If the Moonstone needs their light, we take the Moonstone to the stars."

The little people gathered in the root-hall, arguing late into the night. Some were afraid. Others were curious.

Thorn stood. "The giant speaks wisdom. We cannot hold the stars. But we can move with them."

Bramble nodded. "Then we journey."

They built a small cart for the Moonstone, pulled by a team of stag beetles. Lily carried the cart when the path was rough.

They traveled through the forest, following the stars.

The trees grew strange-taller, older, their bark covered in glowing moss.

"We've never been this far," Bramble whispered.

At dawn, they reached a clearing. The stars, which had been moving all night, stopped directly overhead.

"This is where they were going," Lily said.

The Moonstone pulsed, drawing down the starlight. It grew brighter than ever.

"It's healed," Thorn said.

Bramble looked at Lily. "You didn't just save the Moonstone. You saved our world."

Lily smiled. "We saved it together."

She knelt and placed the Moonstone in the center of the clearing. It hummed with new energy.

"This is its new home," she said.

The little people cheered.

Bramble climbed onto her shoulder. "You are not a giant anymore," he said. "You are a friend."

Lily looked at the stars, at the forest, at the tiny faces around her.

She had followed the light. And it had led her home.

he first shell landed at 0500 exactly. Sergeant First Class Marcus Cole felt the shockwave through his tank, felt the ground shake, felt the war begin.

"Command, Hammer Lead. We are advancing."

"Copy, Hammer Lead. Infantry is behind you. Watch for enemy armor."

Marcus pushed forward, the Abrams climbing over the ridge, the valley spreading below. Enemy positions dotted the hills-bunkers, trenches, anti-tank guns. The infantry would need them to clear the way.

"Chen, gunner's choice. Take out those bunkers."

"On it."

The cannon roared, the shell streaking toward the first bunker. The explosion echoed across the valley, smoke and debris rising.

"Target destroyed."

"Good. Next."

The tank moved forward, its cannon firing, its machine guns chattering. Behind them, the rest of the platoon followed, spreading out, engaging targets. The enemy was fighting back-RPGs streaked past, artillery fell, small arms pinged off the armor.

"Diaz, keep moving. Don't stop."

"Trying, Sarge. The ground's a mess."

The tank lurched, climbed over a trench, crushed a machine gun position under its tracks. Marcus saw the infantry following, advancing behind the armor, using the tanks for cover.

"Hammer Lead, this is Hammer Two. Enemy armor, twelve o'clock. T-72s."

Marcus swung his turret, found the targets-three tanks, hull-down, waiting. "Engage. Hammer One, engaging."

The cannon fired. The first T-72 brewed up, its turret flying. The second returned fire, the shell glancing off the Abrams' armor. Marcus felt the impact, heard the ring of steel on steel.

"Chen, finish it."

"On it."

The second T-72 exploded. The third turned, tried to retreat. Marcus's second shot caught it in the rear, and it joined its brothers in flames.

"Enemy armor destroyed," Marcus reported. "Continuing advance."

They pushed through the enemy line, the infantry securing the positions behind them. Marcus checked his fuel, his ammo, his men.

"Everyone okay?"

"Good here," Chen said.

"Still rolling," Diaz added.

"Hammer Two, Three, Four, report."

One by one, the voices came back. All intact. All advancing.
